Matchup Preview: Jason Voorhees vs. Anton Chigruh

If you have an uncontrollable fear of hockey masked serial killers, or hit-men sporting bowl cuts, avoid this fight at all costs. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the show :D
VS

Although the movies have given us man great villains throughout the years, the most memorable one's always seem to be the monsters, whether they are monsters literally, or just figuratively, they always seem to capture our imagination. Often they seem... well very much like us, often having tragic back stories, that remind us that they were once, very much human.
But as our taste in movies changed, so did our taste in these movie monsters. Starting in the 70's and 80's the classic monsters like Dracula, and the Wolfman, were replaced with a new kind of killer, one that would mark a sharp change in the direction of horror movies, the slasher. These killers, although seemingly different from the classic monsters, were in many ways very similar. They often had the same tragic back story, and were once human. Although they may have been much more brutal then the classic monsters, it was still easy to sympathize with them, and remember that there was still a human behind that mask.

Among the slashers of the 80's, Jason Voorhees is the king. The most prolific mass-murderer in movie history, Jason may at first seem like unsympathetic asshole, murdering whoever crosses his path without any remorse. But Jason has a tragic history worthy of any movie monster. He was just a young boy when the laziness of those who were supposed to be watching him got him killed. Now he carries out his revenge on those like the people who murdered him, and his mother.

Although the slasher genre has had a good run, recently a new kind of villain has dominated the silver screens (and the award shows), the human monster. These people aren't super-powered murder machines, just the worst that humanity can offer. They aren't meant to be sympathetic, they're the kind of villains you're supposed to love to hate.

That's the kind of monster Jason's newest opponent is. Hailing from the book/movie No Country for Old Men, Anton Chigruh is a remorseless hitman, with an outlook on life as cold as the Arctic. He's relentless as any great movie psycho comes, and is packing some serious heat.
However, given the unique nature of this fight, there will be a few rules this time around...
  1. Considering Jason is insanely durable, and Anton is only human, Anton will have two days on prep time to research his foe (ToM style). Anton is highly intelligent and would make good use of such time. I'll detail more of what he'll do in his profile. You may be wondering "Why aren't you giving Jason prep time too?" Well first off, Jason isn't very smart (I'm not even sure he can read), and second he has no resources he can use to research Anton. Don't worry though Jason fans, he gets an advantage he can use in this fight as well...
  2. Jason's advantage is that the fight will be set at his classic stomping grounds of Camp Crystal Lake. This gives him a HUGE terrain advantage. Although Anton will likely use a map of Camp Crystal Lake, this really can't compare to living in the camp you're entire life.
  3. To compensate for Jason's huge durability advantage, Anton will carry with him a small medical kit. Many times throughout NCFOM Anton showed skill, treating his injuries with some medical supplies.
Well that's that. Feel free to give some predictions; in this battle of the old vs. the new, who walks away from this battle of the psychos?

  1. Anton Chigrugh seems like the type to accomplish quite a bit with prep-time, so I believe that will be fair against a beserker like Jason to compensate for the latter's insane durability.

I see this mostly as a stealth battle, as both characters have the tendency to appear randomly out of nowhere.

  2. I am so PSYCHED for this fight, Mongol! Both Jason and Anton are perfect opponents for each other, cold and emotionless beings that only kill. This will be good.

My initial edge goes over to Jason for now. I've been a fan of the big man and his insane durability will keep Anton on his toes. That and Jason is already known for using anything as an improvised weapon, from his machete to axes, pitchforks, chainsaws, and harpoon guns. This will be good. :D
