Bio

When your enemies compare you to one of the worst pandemics in human history, you must be doing something right. Sadly, there isn’t really much known about Chigurh’s backstory, besides what was in the book/movie. How did he become a hitman? Who gave him that haircut? What kind of parents name their kid Anton Chigurh? Questions that for now, will have to be left to bad fanfics to answer. But for what we do know: In 1980, Anton Chigurh is hired by some slimy corporate executive types to retrieve a stolen satchel of money from a drug deal gone bad. Complicating matters for him is that a local welder, and Vietnam War vet named Llewellyn Moss has found the money first, and leads Chigurh in a wild goose chase across Texas, where he must also contend with Mexican gangsters, a rival bounty hunter, and his employers, who don’t necessarily trust him to get the job done. And oh, he kills people. A lot of people. If you’ve haven’t seen the movie yet, I won’t spoil it for you, but give it a try; it’s a decent thriller, just don’t expect a “satisfying” ending.

Prep Time-

As I mentioned in the matchup preview, Chigurh gets prep time, although I think I should clarify some things about it: 

The source he gets for pre-battle is nowhere near as good as a fighter in the ToM gets. Without giving away too much detail about the fight itself, Anton is hired to kill Jason, and gets a… dossier of sorts to read up on our favorite slasher. The dossier will include Jason’s history, his powers (primarily his durability), his tactics, and most importantly, his weaknesses. One disadvantage to the dossier is that it’s essentially “Jason’s greatest hits”. It may leave out details that Chigurh’s client feels are too minor to include (such as Jason having a tendency to throw his machete at people), but it will include the general information he needs to formulate a strategy.

Overall Strategy-  Chigurh will quickly realize that he is going up against a target far tougher than anything he’s ever killed before. Since Jason’s killings generally seem to be common public knowledge at this point in the F13th series, Anton has likely heard of Voorhees before, but may be skeptical of Jason’s supernatural abilities. Either way, he’ll knowledge that this target seems to possess a high degree of durability, and will quickly realize that he should kill Jason as quickly as possible, as fighting a battle of attrition with Voorhees is not something he can win. 

He’ll most likely stick to his shotguns as his primary weapons, as they’re the only ones with the stopping power to actually hurt Jason, most of his other weapons (with the possible exception of the rifle) are going to slow Jason down at best. However, even this could be advantage to Anton, as his main focus in this battle will be to limit Jason’s mobility. This may sound like a strange goal, considering how slow Jason is, but it could end up being a deciding factor, the reason being is that it takes away two of Jason’s biggest advantages. If Anton can damage Jason's legs to the extent where he can no longer move, he can’t take advantage of his stealth and terrain advantage to outmaneuver Anton. 

At this point Jason would likely be helpless, as he would have abandoned most of his long range weapons by the time he’s within shotgun range, meaning Anton could take his merry time killing him via repeated headshots from his shotguns, or any plastic explosives that he brings along. If Jason was somehow able to escape, then Anton would spend most of his efforts tracking him down; seeing that Jason’s regeneration isn’t particularly fast, he may have a chance to kill him before he gets fully back on his feet again. If Anton was unable to do this, he would fall back and set up a defensive position, as going after Jason on his own terms would be playing directly into his hands. He would also formulate back up plans to utilize Pamela’s head against Jason, as well as the lake itself, should it come to that.

Supplies-The second part of Anton's prep, he'll gather the supplies he needs to survive his night at Camp Crystal Lake.

     Flashlight - The most basic piece of gear. Even dumbass F13th teens are smart enough to carry a flashlight with them. Anton will likely find one small enough to attach it to his shotgun.

Map of Camp Crystal Lake- This would even out Anton’s terrain disadvantage a little, although his knowledge of the camp’s layout still can’t compete with Jason’s.

Incendiary Ammunition- Loaded with a barium/aluminum compound in the forward portion of the round, it explodes with a heat reaching up to 3,000 °F.

Incendiary /Tracer Ammunition- Very similar to the incendiary rounds; this type of ammunition also features a tracer component in the rear portion of the bullet. The end of the bullet is hollowed out and filled with the same compounds you would find in a road flare. The heat from the exploding gunpowder ignites the flare, which allows the shooter to track the bullet’s path to its target. Tracer rounds are useful for zeroing in on targets at night, but they can also give away a shooter’s position.

C4- An extremely popular plastic explosive, C4 is popular among criminals for both its safety of use compared to other explosives, and for its versatility. It’s capable of being molded into a variety of different shapes so that you can choose the direction of the explosion. C4 is VERY powerful explosive, with even small military issue blocks (roughly 1.25 pounds) having enough power to demolish a truck.

The only disadvantage to carrying around so much gear, is that Anton will not be able to have it all with him at once. He’s going to have to leave most of it back at his vehicle, and will have to come back to get other supplies depending on what he needs for each situation. Jason may use this time to circle around him and sabotage his supplies.

(Note: Anton didn't actually use this gun in NCFOM, but it was used by another character, and it seems to fit within his character to give it to him. Mostly though, it's because he has no other real "long range" weapons)  

A legendary military and hunting rifle, Remington Model 700 first began production in 1962, and continues to do so to this very day. Due to the extreme popularity of this gun there are quite a few variants out there, appearing in both the civilian and military styles. The style described in book is “…"heavy barreled .270 on a '98 Mauser action with a laminated stock of maple and walnut. It carried a Unertl telescopic sight of the same power as the binoculars [10x]". The Remington is known for its excellent accuracy.

 An odd mixture between a handgun and a submachine gun, the TEC-9 dares the dubious distinction of being one of the most widely known “criminal” guns, popular among street gangs for its compact design and high capacity magazines. The gun was even temporarily banned by the 1994 assault weapon ban, which forced Intratec to remove some of the assault features from this gun, including removing the threaded barrel, the barrel shroud, and the forward pistol grip. The drawbacks of this gun is that its cheap design means that its neither particularly accurate, nor reliable. It has been known to have trouble feeding rounds and extracting spent casings, although keeping it well maintained can cut back on these problems.

One of the most famous submachine guns in history, the Uzi was developed by Uziel Gal, an Israeli army captain. It’s cheapness and simplicity to produce quickly made it the premier submachine of the IDF, primarily of their paratroopers and special forces. The Uzi is a recoil-operated, select fire submachine gun, firing open bolt, and it includes a folding stock. It is known to be a reliable weapon, and surprisingly accurate (for a submachine gun). These factors are what have made it so popular among military forces, as well as criminals, worldwide.

Designed as an improvement to Remington's earlier model 1100, the 11-87 has a greater range and stopping power than its predecessor, but at the price of a greater recoil. It’s gas operated, and magazine fed, with rubber pads on the buttstocks in order to help decrease the previously mentioned recoil. The 11-87 is widely used by military and police forces worldwide.

As you probably noticed in the above picture, Anton has a large silencer attached to the end of his shotgun (custom made, according to the book). In the movie the silencer reduces the sound the shotgun makes to a very quiet “twip”. This is likely just a case of the directors (or the original author) not realizing how impractical using a silencer on a shotgun would be, as if you’re using one you’re probably not too concerned with being stealthy.

Special Weapon-Bolt Cattle Gun

Without a doubt the strangest weapon in Anton’s arsenal is the bolt cattle gun. A device used to slaughter cattle, the cattle gun fires the bolt using compressed air, usually into the animals forehead, stunning it, and often destroying a part of the brain. The force is roughly equivalent to a .22 caliber bullet. Anton also uses this device to shoot locks off doors.

As a killing tool is does have some advantages. It requires no ammo, and leaves behind no bullet or shell casing. However, it requires that you be close enough in order to press the nozzle to the victims head (and considering Jason’s love of up close fighting, this may not be the best idea), and having to lug around the air tank needed to fire the bolt would be cumbersome.

X-Factors/Intangibles

Tactics- Anton seems to prefer “shock and awe” tactics, getting as close to his targets as possible through stealth, before catching them off guard and killing them in a flurry of violence. Over the course of both the movie and the book he showed a great deal of skill at improvising his tactics based on whatever situation he’s in. Examples include blowing up a car as a distraction, so he could sneak into a pharmacy for medical supplies, killing the lights outside Moss’s room so he couldn’t see his shadow underneath the door, and going shoeless outside the Mexican’s hotel room so they couldn’t hear his footsteps.

Training- Given that we know almost nothing of Anton’s backstory, it’s unknown how much training he had. Given that he’s just a hitman it’s likely that it wasn’t very much, if any at all.

Morale/Motivation-Anton operates by a moral code that seems to place himself as a decider of peoples fates, in other words, the messenger of death. He relies on a coin flip to make the decisions of who he kills, perhaps as a way of distancing himself from his actions, something Carla Jean calls him on towards the end of the movie. He doesn’t necessarily enjoying killing, but instead acknowledges it as a cruel part of life, and its his job to simply carry it out.

He never displays any compassion for his victims though, and seems to value his ability, and reputation to complete a job above all else. He can be completely relentless when he needs to finish a job, and was willing to pursue Moss all across the state of Texas to do so.

Experience- Once again, Chigurh’s lack of a backstory makes this difficult to determine, but given that he seems to be skilled at killing, and does seem to have a reputation (the “bubonic plague” line, as well as one of the men who hires Wells jokingly describing him as the “Invincible Mr. Chigurh” in the book). We can assume he is reasonably experienced.

Weaknesses- Chigurh has no notable “weaknesses” per say. You could argue that he is obsessive, but that obsession drives him to success at the end of the movie/book. His biggest disadvantage, is that compared to his opponent, he’s only human. He good shot from Jason’s bow, or a hit from his machete will kill him. He’s never faced anything in the realm of the supernatural before, and his knowledge of the terrain will not be on par with Jason’s.

Well that's that. Feel free to leave any edge/overall predictions on who you think will surive in this clash of psychos. So it the words of Anton Chigurh: "Call it friendo."
